Private Annapurna Base Camp Trek — Frequently Asked Questions

How does this compare to the Luxury Lodge Trek?
The Luxury Lodge Trek stays at purpose-built lodges in the Annapurna foothills (max 1,940m). This ABC trek goes deep into the Annapurna Sanctuary to 4,130m using upgraded teahouses. The ABC trek is more challenging and more rewarding in terms of mountain proximity — you stand in a 360-degree amphitheater of 8,000m peaks. The Lodge Trek is more comfortable. Choose based on your ambition level.
Is the Annapurna Base Camp trek safe?
The ABC trail is well-established and heavily traveled. Our guides are certified with first aid and altitude training. We carry communication equipment and have emergency helicopter evacuation protocols. The main risk is altitude at 4,130m, which our itinerary manages with a gradual 5-day ascent.
What is the accommodation like at ABC?
At Annapurna Base Camp itself, teahouses are basic — shared rooms with mattresses and blankets, no hot showers, and simple menus. We reserve the best rooms available and our porter team carries extra warm bedding. The views from your window more than compensate for the simplicity.
Can the itinerary be shortened?
Yes. We can do a faster 8-day version by combining some descent days. Alternatively, a helicopter return from ABC to Pokhara (weather-dependent, additional cost) reduces the trek to 7 days. Contact us for a custom itinerary.
When is the best time for ABC?
October-November (clear skies, stable weather) and March-May (warmer, rhododendron bloom) are ideal. April is particularly special for the flowering rhododendrons between Chhomrong and Bamboo. Winter is possible but very cold at ABC. Monsoon is not recommended.
